WHATS.NEW - Whats new in POVMenu v1.1, 24 DEC 1992
PLEASE NOTE: POVMenu VERSION 1.1 IS NOT A DROP IN REPLACEMENT FOR VERSION
1.0!!! You must first run the INSTPOVM utility to upgrade your POVMENU.CFG
file. If you don't, it's gonna bomb out! See the docs for more info on
this...
The improvements and additions to version 1.1 include:
* Added 5 user definable menu picks. This allows you to install
utility programs as menu picks on the main menu. These can be
any of the many POV-Ray utilities like C-Mapper or POVScape -or-
anything that you can dream up. You can write your own batch files
and install them as menu picks on the main menu!
* 3 new convert to GIF methods. IMG2GIF by Steve Coy, TGA2GIF and
CUTTGA by Sun Country Software. TGA2GIF and IMG2GIF are both first
class conversion utilities, check 'em out! Many thanks to Loren
Bolinger at Sun Country for the evaluation copy of TGA2GIF!
* MUCH improved configuration screens. That config screen in version
1.0 was way to busy! It has now been divided into 4 separate
screens. Many new options are available and the configuration
system is much easier to operate and understand.
* POVMenu now stores a separate set of command line parameters for
each convert to GIF method. This allows you to change from one
method to another very quickly, allowing you to compare the results
from each method and select which one makes the best GIF for the
current picture.
* On line help! Help text is now available on the configuration
screens and the select Convert-To-GIF screen.
* Improved installation utility. Will convert from the old format
config file, and also verifies the presence of key files.
* Added support for the -+x command line parameter in POV-Ray. (Lock
trace in while running).
* I finally put some basic error trapping in the program. It will also
detect if it has not been installed.
* Many improvements to the documentation. Including a whole section
on installation strategy. (Want to use POVMenu in your existing
directory structure? No problem...) Also, new sections outlining
your options when converting to GIF and the various video modes
that are available in POV-Ray when rendering directly to the screen.
I hope you like the new version!
